System requirements
Windows 10 21H2 or Windows 11, 64-bit. Any GPU with hardware H.264 encoding (Intel Quick Sync, NVIDIA NVENC or AMD VCE) — if none is detected, Recast falls back to CPU encoding, which is slower. 4 GB RAM, 300 MB disk plus room for recordings.
Windows SmartScreen says “unrecognised app”
Recast is signed with a standard code-signing certificate, but SmartScreen reputation builds over time on new releases. Click “More info” → “Run anyway”. If you would rather verify first, compare the SHA256 above with the file you downloaded.
Does the installer need admin rights?
No. It installs per-user into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Recast, so it works on locked-down enterprise laptops.
Where do recordings go?
%LOCALAPPDATA%\RecastApp\projects. They survive uninstalling the app — the installer never touches your projects.
