A demo video for Product Hunt

Autoplay, muted, roughly 600 pixels wide. That is the entire first impression, and it is decided in three seconds.

What Product Hunt actually shows

Your gallery video autoplays muted in a card roughly 600 pixels wide. Nobody hears the narration on the first pass — they decide in three seconds whether the thing looks finished.

Short beats complete

30–60 seconds. One flow, one payoff. A full feature tour reads as a tutorial and gets skipped.

Muted by default

Assume no audio. Captions burned into the frame carry the explanation; a voice-over alone does not.

Square crops lose UI

Keep the demo at 16:9 and let the thumbnail do the cropping. A vertical export is for social, not for the gallery.

Making it in one sitting

  1. Write the 40-second script. Problem, one click that fixes it, result. Three sentences.
  2. Record the flow once. Click at a human pace; the zooms follow the clicks.
  3. Cut the setup. Delete everything before the first meaningful click on the timeline.
  4. Burn captions. Local transcription, no audio leaves the machine. Captions survive the muted autoplay.
  5. Export the gallery master and a GIF. The GIF is for the first comment and for X.

Checklist before you publish

  • Under 60 seconds, and the payoff lands in the first 5.
  • No customer names, emails or real data on screen.
  • Captions burned in, readable at 600 pixels wide.
  • No dead air at the start — trim to the first frame that shows the product.
  • A GIF under 8 MB for the first comment.

Record it once, on Windows.
